Ceres Police arrested a man Monday night who was wanted for allegedly entering his estranged wife’s home through a dog door, threatening her with a gun and sexually assaulting her.
The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. on April 29 at the woman’s home in the area of Hatch Road and Central Avenue.
The victim managed to text a friend who contacted police, said Ceres Police Sgt. Jose Berber. The friend called police and the suspect, 53-year-old Kevin Charles Sales, left the home as officers arrived.
Berber said Sales has been wanted since the incident and was arrested at his mother’s home on Monday in the 3900 block of Gable Way, just north of Keyes.
Sales was arrested on suspicion of rape by force, making criminal threats, burglary of an inhabited dwelling, brandishing a firearm and violating an emergency protective order.
The victim was granted the protective order just a few weeks before the incident, according to court records. She stated in court documents that Sales had previously abused her and threatened to kill her when she tried to leave him.
She said since she told him in February that she wanted a divorce he called her thousands of times in 40-second intervals until she changed her number. She said she also caught him hiding in the backyard spying on her.
