A 76-year-old Valley Springs man is wanted on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after a crash Tuesday morning seriously injured a pedestrian in Sonora.
About 9:15 a.m., 30-year-old Jessica Williams of Jamestown was crossing Elkin Street at North Washington Street using a crosswalk, according to the Sonora Police Department. She was struck by a silver Honda sedan turning east onto Elkin from southbound Washington.
Williams suffered major injuries and was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center by ambulance, then later airlifted to a Modesto hospital, police said in a Facebook post Wednesday morning. She suffered head trauma, police Chief Mark Stinson said, and lost consciousness at the hospital.
The male driver stopped briefly to ask Williams if she was OK, police said, then fled when several witnesses mentioned contacting law enforcement. At least four people saw the crash and went to Williams’ side, Stinson said. When they saw the driver getting back into his vehicle, they took photos and captured his license-plate number.
In a photo lineup, witnesses identified the driver as Louis Page of Valley Springs in Calaveras County. “Apparently, he did not go back home,” Stinson said.
Anyone with information on Page’s whereabouts can call the Sonora Police Department at 209-532-8141.
