A 35-year-old Modesto woman has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison for stealing a pickup and possessing drugs while in the Stanislaus County Jail.
Amanda Mae Watson on Jan. 23 was convicted of vehicle theft, second-degree burglary and possessing drugs in jail. Deputy District Attorney Tracy Roland prosecuted the case.
On June 16, 2013, Watson entered a building with the intent to burglarize, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
Later that day, the owners of a 1984 blue GMC pickup were returning home when they spotted Watson driving their vehicle, prosecutors said. The owners confronted Watson, who told them she had just purchased the pickup. Watson then left.
The prosecutors said Watson’s fingerprints were found on items inside the stolen pickup.
The defendant was in jail on Jan. 14, when jail officials found methamphetamine and antidepressant mirtazapine in Watson’s clothing.
