A 61-year-old Sonora woman was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of starting several small fires at the Columbia Gem Motel and Parrotts Ferry Road.
Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the motel just after midnight Monday when a witness saw the woman attempting to set a plant on fire on the deck of the room she was occupying.
The owner of the motel said the woman was suspected in several small fires the day before, including a garbage can fire, according to Tuolumne County Sgt. Deborah Moss. No major damage occurred as a result of the fires.
Deputies investigated the fires and spoke to the woman, Catherine Yvonne Park, as well as the witness.
Park was arrested on suspicion of arson and booked into the county jail without incident.
Park is also suspected of starting a fire that destroyed a mobile home in Sonora in June 2015. That case has been forwarded to the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office, Moss said.
