A 41-year-old man from Empire died in a three-vehicle crash southwest of Ceres on Wednesday morning.
Luis Vallecillo-Aguilar was driving a maroon GMC pickup west on Grayson Road when the crash occurred about 5:40 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Chuck Leon.
Daniel Florez, 23, of Modesto was driving a silver Acura southbound on Vivian Road when he went through a stop sign and into the intersection at Grayson, Leon said. Traffic on Grayson does not stop at the intersection.
The Acura broadsided the GMC pickup on its passenger side, sending it spinning into the eastbound lanes. There, a yellow Chevrolet pickup driven by Homero Pimentel, 37, of Patterson, hit the GMC on the driver’s side.
The Chevrolet burst into flames. The Acura came to rest on its wheels in a field.
Vallecillo-Aguilar was declared dead at the scene. Pimentel suffered burns and was taken by helicopter to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Florez was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Officers continue to investigate the crash. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors, Leon said.
