Children will get the chance to fly in an airplane for free Oct. 4 during Oakdale Airport Appreciation Day. Youngsters 8 to 17 years old will be offered rides in private passenger planes flown by volunteer pilots.
The 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. open house will include the chance to see assorted unusual aircraft and cars.
The World War II-era bomber the Mitchell B-25, named Old Glory, will be flying at 10 a.m. The NorCal Crosswinds formation team also will be there with its home-built aircraft.
The city of Oakdale, the Oakdale Airport Ad Hoc Committee and the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 90 are sponsoring the free event.
The general aviation airport is at 8195 Laughlin Road.
