The Modesto Mayor’s Top Teens program is seeking local students who demonstrate a strong commitment to serving others; have overcome adversity or unique obstacles in life; have achieved a significant accomplishment; and serve as positive role models for peers.
Now entering its fourth year, the Mayor’s Top Teens program began as a collaborative effort among local business and youth-serving organizations that seek to change the community’s perception of teens by highlighting the positive effects they have on the community.
In addition to providing scholarship awards, the program aims to boost confidence and provide additional opportunities for involvement in the Modesto community. The program develops leaders as they participate in various community-service projects.
Every year, the program gathers donations to organize activities that acknowledge teens who do not routinely receive recognition for the remarkable things they do.
Teens currently enrolled as juniors or seniors in high school can be nominated for the 2014-15 Top Teens program by teachers, counselors, friends, clergy or family (excluding parents). The deadline for nominees is Oct. 24 online at www.modestogov.com/council/topteens. Applications also can be submitted by mail, fax or email.
Organizations, civic groups or individuals interested in helping the program are encouraged to contact Loree Lee at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
