Students at Big Valley Christian School on Thursday packed bags of food for local schoolchildren as part of the nationwide Blessings in a Backpack Day. Blessings in a Backpack is a nonprofit organization that provides food for students in need. Volunteers across the country pack and deliver food to students every week throughout the school year – feeding more than 65,000 children in 45 states. The U.S. Conference of Mayors declared that Thursday was Blessings in a Backpack Day, so Modesto Mayor Garrad Marsh joined the Big Valley students in their work.
