A Modesto woman suffered major injuries in a rollover crash on Highway 99 on Tuesday night, but her infant daughter, strapped into a car seat, was unhurt.
The crash was reported at 8:26 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Laura Sandoval, 25, of Modesto was driving a Mazda 3 south on the freeway near the downtown Modesto exit when she tried to change lanes. Another vehicle ahead of her also started to change lanes, so Sandoval applied her brakes.
Sandoval lost control of the car, which started to fishtail before flipping several times and landing in an area with ice plant. Passers-by helped Sandoval out of the car and removed her infant daughter.
Sandoval suffered major injuries; her hand was severed near the wrist. Her daughter, properly restrained in a car seat, was not hurt.
