A Turlock Irrigation District employee reported seeing a mountain lion along a canal southwest of Modesto early Monday.
It was the most recent in a series of sightings that included reports last week along Dry Creek near Creekside golf course and earlier in parts of east Turlock.
None of the sightings has been confirmed, and police following up have not found any sign of a mountain lion, authorities said. Still, Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said, officials notified the state Department of Fish and Wildlife of Monday’s sighting, reported at about 1 a.m. in the area of Poland Road and West Whitmore Avenue.
The site is just a few blocks from the Tuolumne River.
