Admission Day will be celebrated with free events Saturday in Columbia State Historic Park. Native Sons of the Golden West, Columbia Parlor, will sponsor a parade, themed “California, the Grizzly Bear,” starting at 11 a.m. Town tours will be at 1 and 3 p.m., and a cemetery tour at 1:30 p.m. An 1850s fashion show will be at 12:30 p.m. and a concert at 1:15. Costumed volunteers will be on hand, and additional exhibits will be open. For more information, call the park office at (209) 588-9128.

MEETING WILL DEAL WITH COLLEGE ACCESS

Counselors and mentors who work with parents, students, veterans and dislocated workers are invited to participate in roundtable discussions on increasing awareness of financial aid for college. Representatives of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid will be in Modesto on Sept. 22 and Merced on Sept. 23. The free morning events are meant to share best practices.
