A 63-year-old Mariposa man died after his car went off the road and overturned Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was driving a 1998 Nissan south on Highway 49 near Third Street when the accident occurred at about 4:25 p.m.
The driver allowed the car to go off the road and onto the west shoulder, where the car overturned several times and traveled across Mariposa Creek. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation into the accident continues, but authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor.
