The last work week before Labor Day is off to a mild start, thanks to a system that has moved into the Northern San Joaquin Valley.

National Weather Service forecasters say the Modesto area will hit only about 87 degrees today. Some high clouds are expected, though the possibility of rain is limited to the higher elevations. Overnight lows are expected to drop to 59 degrees.

Conditions will warm up as the week goes on, with highs in the mid 90s by midweek before they drop a couple of degrees for the weekend. Lows are expected to be in the upper 60s.
