An 81-year-old Modesto woman was killed Friday night when the vehicle she was riding in went off the road and hit a tree in east Stanislaus County, authorities said.
The woman was a passenger in a 2012 Ford Fusion that was traveling west on Highway 108 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve west of Kennedy Road near Knights Ferry, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Fusion crashed through four fences before hitting a tree.
The driver, a 60-year-old Modesto man, was taken to Doctors Medical Center and treated for major injuries, the CHP said.
The woman, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
It’s not known what speed the vehicle was traveling. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash.
Both people in the car were wearing seat belts, the CHP said.
