What: JEWISH HUMAN RIGHTS PRESENTATION

Info: Fellows from American Jewish World Service, a Jewish human rights advocacy organization, will share their experiences from a recent rip to Uganda and talk about the “We Believe” campaign, which focuses on asking Congress to pass the International Violence Against Women Act. What: TUNE IN & TUNE UP CAR EVENT
When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Stanislaus County Fairground, 900 N. Broadway
Info: Valley CAN and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District will offer free car emissions testing and diagnostic inspections. The first 525 vehicles that qualify after the free emissions test will receive a $500 voucher for repairs at a participating STAR smog shop. Expect a two-hour wait or more. Free food and drinks will begin 9 a.m. (while supplies last). This event provides only emissions screenings; no smog certificates will be issued at the event. What: TURLOCK UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Info: The Turlock Unified School District board will recognize seniors who completed coursework over the summer to graduate. The board will be asked to approve change orders of $790,000 for stucco replacement and fixes because of dry rot and termites on the Turlock High girls gym renovation. Info: The West Side Health Care Task Force is presenting its sixth annual Healthy Choices Summit. The event will feature a “weigh-in” of local biggest-loser contestants, vendor demonstrations, speakers and a free healthy box lunch. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Jordan De-Paz. 25 YEARS AGO: Local community colleges were expecting record enrollment. Modesto Junior College expected enrollment to jump by 22.2 percent, while Merced, Columbia and San Joaquin Delta anticipated enrollment gains ranging of 6 percent to 19 percent. Additionally, California State University, Stanislaus, and the University of the Pacific expected enrollment gains of 9 percent to 10 percent.
