Info: Valley CAN and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District will offer free car emissions testing and diagnostic inspections. The first 525 vehicles that qualify after the free emissions test will receive a $500 voucher for repairs at a participating STAR smog shop. Expect a two-hour wait or more. Free food and drinks will begin 9 a.m. (while supplies last). This event provides only emissions screenings; no smog certificates will be issued at the event. 25 YEARS AGO: Local community colleges were expecting record enrollment. Modesto Junior College expected enrollment to jump by 22.2 percent, while Merced, Columbia and San Joaquin Delta anticipated enrollment gains ranging of 6 percent to 19 percent. Additionally, California State University, Stanislaus, and the University of the Pacific expected enrollment gains of 9 percent to 10 percent.
