It’s only mid-August, but The Modesto Bee already is working on its Book of Dreams publication for November. A Book of Dreams is an annual Christmas season fundraiser, now in its 24th year.

Working in partnership with the Stanislaus Community Foundation, The Bee highlights area nonprofit agencies that serve the needy in our communities and some of the people these groups help. We collect donations through the holiday season, culminating with a check distribution ceremony in early January.

The Bee is seeking applications from nonprofit groups that would like to take part in the 2014 Book of Dreams.

Representatives of nonprofit groups are invited to go online to to download an application to submit for consideration. Applications are due Sept. 19. Agencies will be selected by early October.

Since The Bee started publishing A Book of Dreams in 1990, readers have contributed roughly $632,000 to needy families and organizations. Nonprofit groups also have benefited from increased visibility and an increase in those seeking to volunteer.
