A woman was hospitalized after a rollover crash in downtown Modesto on Thursday afternoon.
The crash, involving a Toyota Highlander and a Chevrolet Tahoe, occurred about 11:45 a.m. at Fifth and I streets near Highway 99.
According to Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves, witnesses said the woman driving the Highlander was going south on Fifth Street when she ran a red light and hit the Tahoe. The driver of the Tahoe was not hurt.
The Highlander flipped, trapping the woman inside until firefighters could free her. She was alert and talking with rescuers.
The intersection is a busy one, where crashes, often fender-benders, are common. Traffic coming off Highway 99 southbound was backed up while firefighters worked to free the woman and the crash was cleared.
