A San Jose man died in a head-on collision near Groveland Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 27-year-old man, whose name was not released, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic west on Highway 120 when the accident occurred at 10:50 a.m.
For an unknown reason, the Sonic drifted across the center line and into the path of a 2009 Ford driven eastbound at 55 to 60 mph by Eli Richard Mower, 18, of Penryn. Mower couldn’t stop, and the two vehicles collided. The Sonic driver was declared dead at the scene.
Mower and a passenger in the Ford, Jeffrey Setterlund, 18, also of Penryn, were taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Investigation into the accident continues.
