News & Notes

Gov. Jerry Brown paid a surprise visit to the Mother Lode Fair in Sonora, taking in the livestock and other areas. Brown was staying in Twain Harte and decided to drop by the fair, which ended its four-day run Sunday, interim General Manager Forrest White said. The governor technically is in charge of county fairs in California but delegates the job to the Department of Food and Agriculture. Brown, a Democrat, made sure to stop by his party’s fair booth.
