A five-acre vegetation fire has closed Highway 108 near Mono Way in Sonora. No structures are threatened, but motorists are encouraged to proceed with caution and seek alternative routes as some on-ramps in the area are shut, said Cal Fire spokeswoman Lisa Williams.
Ten fire engines, a helicopter, a dozer and two hand crews are fighting the blaze, she said. She had no word on containment. Cal Fire and the Tuolumne County Fire Department are working together on the fire, she said.
The Union Democrat in Sonora reports that the fire is along Highway 108 from near Old Wards Ferry Road to the Sanguinetti Loop.
