Modesto police are investigating the drowning of a woman at a home in east Modesto.
The victim’s body was discovered by family members in a backyard pool about 7:10 a.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Brian Findlen of the Modesto Police Department.
Lifesaving measures were unsuccessful and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, Findlen said.
Investigators were at the home in the 2500 block of Guadalajara Drive, a few blocks northwest of Floyd Avenue and Lincoln Oak Drive. The department’s crime scene truck was parked in front.
Sirens could be heard early Sunday in east Modesto. There was a request by police for a chaplain and coroner.
Findlen said the drowning is being handled as an “unattended death investigation.” The Police Department and Coroner’s Office are working together to determine the cause of death.
There were no further details, Findlen said, and the investigation is in its early stages.
