Shelley the Pistachio isn’t a mascot who needs to come out of her shell.
The newest member of the Modesto Nuts’ mascot team made a grand debut at Friday’s home game against the High Desert Mavericks. She arrived in a classic convertible and proceeded to dance and cartwheel to a medley of songs including “What I Like About You” and “I Like to Move It.”
Shelley joins the Nuts’ initial mascots, Al the Almond and Wally the Walnut. Her name was suggested by Gina Macias of Riverbank during a two-month contest, and was voted the winner by fans.
“The fans made a great choice with the name Shelley,” said Nuts General Manager Tyler Richardson. For her winning suggestion, Macias got a limo ride to the game Friday and a night out at John Thurman Field in one of the Nuts’ suites with 15 guests.
