What: LATINO EMERGENCY COUNCIL MEETING

What: OLYMPIC DAY CELEBRATION

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Sportsmen of Stanislaus Club

Info: The SOS Club and SOS Aquatics will host a free, public sports event in celebration of Olympic Day. Activities will include swimming, fin swimming, water polo, tennis, handball, racquetball, volleyball, basketball, baseball, golf and a Zumba demonstration. The club will give away tickets to a Modesto Nuts game and pick one youngster to throw out the first pitch. Olympic temporary tattoos will be given out, too, along with free lunch for all the kids. The kickoff will be led by Modesto Mayor Garrad Marsh, with speakers including Brad Post, SOS Club president; and Mike Gower, president of USA Fin Swimming and an Olympic Committee member. 75 YEARS AGO: Modesto Post 74 of the American Legion and its auxiliary unit elected new board members. Albert Pedersen was chosen as commander of the post and Florence Cole was named president of the auxiliary.
