Crash sparks wildfire near Don Pedro Reservoir

A car that left the road and hit a boulder near Don Pedro Reservoir Thursday afternoon sparked a fire that grew to nearly 300 acres.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported at 1:01 p.m. on La Grange Road south of Old Don Pedro Road. Sheila Monaghan, 65, of Sonora was driving a 2001 Lexus north on La Grange Road when she missed a turn in the road and the Lexus went off the road.
The car went into a dirt culvert before striking a boulder. The Lexus overturned and landed on its roof in the northbound lane, continued across the road and came to rest on its side in the southbound lane.
Monaghan had cuts to her arms and a complaint of pain to her neck. She was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The crash started a fire that grew to 287 acres. According to Cal Fire, the blaze was 100 percent contained Friday afternoon.
