A 31-year-old Modesto woman suffered major injuries when her car hit a big rig on Highway 120 near Knights Ferry Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Jennifer Cunningham was driving a 2012 Toyota east on Highway 120 near Kennedy Road when for an unknown reason the car went off the road onto the right shoulder. Cunningham overcorrected, sending the Toyota into the westbound lane of the highway and into the path of a 2014 Peterbilt driven by Donald Herald, 46, of Modesto. The accident was reported at 5:55 a.m.
Cunningham, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered major injuries and was taken by helicopter to Doctors Medical Center. Herald was not hurt.
The collision remains under investigation, but authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol was a factor, the CHP said.
