Prompted by high winds and low humidity that will increase the fire danger, National Weather Service forecasters have issued a red flag warning for the Modesto area through Thursday night.
A red flag warning is issued when conditions are ripe for fires to spread quickly. Wednesday, winds with gusts up to 25 mph blew through the Northern San Joaquin Valley. Those winds are expected to die down over the next couple of days.
The near future also will bring some lower temperatures, with a high of 88 expected Thursday. Lows will be in the upper 50s.
The weekend will be even milder, with highs of only about 80 expected for the Modesto area, a marked drop from the near triple digits last weekend.
Next week is looking a bit warmer, with highs in the upper 80s.
