A fire early Wednesday destroyed a vacant house in Modesto, authorities said.
According to Modesto Regional Fire Authority Battalion Chief Alan Ernst, firefighters were called to 1335 Hillside Drive at 5:20 a.m.
Firefighters from MRFA and Stanislaus Consolidated arrived to find a single-story house consumed in flames.
"Crews operated in a defensive mode, protecting the surrounding homes," Ernst said in a news release. Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes.
A search of the home found it vacant. No injuries were reported; the cause is under investigation.
Damages were estimated at $75,000.
