The Dodge Ridge ski area suspended its season Sunday because of a snow shortage. Should the spring bring more storms, the Pinecrest-area resort could reopen, an announcement said.

The Dodge Ridge ski area suspended its season Sunday because of a snow shortage. Should the spring bring more storms, the Pinecrest-area resort could reopen, an announcement said.

Dodge, which lacks snowmaking capacity, did not open until Feb. 12. The snowpack in the central Sierra was 33 percent of average as of Sunday, the California Department of Water Resources reported.

Modesto hit 84 degrees Sunday, 3 degrees shy of the record set in 2007, the Modesto Irrigation District reported.
