The California Highway Patrol issued 45 citations
Thursday during a pedestrian safety enforcement operation in south Modesto. A plainclothes officer repeatedly crossed the four lanes of traffic on Crows Landing Road at Amador Avenue between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Four officers pulled over motorists who failed to yield to the crossing officer, said CHP spokesman Eric Parsons. They issued 37 citations for failing to yield, one for a seat belt violation, one to a
person who had an open alcohol container and six to
drivers using their cell phones. Also, several vehicles were impounded because the drivers did not have licenses. Parsons said the officers chose the intersection in south Modesto because there is a high concentration of collisions involving pedestrians and bicycles on Crows Landing Road. The operation was paid for by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
