A grass fire that tied up traffic Wednesday afternoon in Turlock was started by a faulty wheel on a train boxcar, authorities said.
According to the Turlock Fire Department, the fire broke out about 3:45 p.m. and consumed an acre of grass near Taylor Road and Golden State Boulevard.
Firefighters from the Turlock Rural, Keyes and Ceres departments responded to help control the fire and keep it from nearby buildings.
An investigation traced the cause to the malfunctioning wheel, which started blazes in several spots.
Firefighters controlled the fire within 20 minutes and extinguished it within an hour. No injuries were reported.
