Modesto police are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist Friday night on West Orangeburg and College Avenues.
According to police, Donald Lewis Jr., 42, of Modesto was riding 1995 Harley Davidson east on Orangeburg when the motorcycle collided with a 2003 Ford Edge sport utility vehicle that was heading west and turning left onto College. The accident was reported at 8:13 p.m. Lewis was thrown from the motorcycle; he was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
The three occupants of the sports utility vehicle, whose names were not released, were not hurt. Lewis was wearing a helmet, police said. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor.
Investigators said Monday they have have not determined fault or cause in the accident and continue to interview witnesses. They ask anyone who saw the accident or has information pertaining to it to call (209) 652-3165. It’s the second fatal accident involving a motorcycle in August, and the seventh fatal accident in the city this year.
