The Stanislaus County coroner's office on Thursday identified two people who died recently when they were hit by trains.
Alta Scott, 80, of Turlock died Wednesday after she drove her car onto the tracks at North Olive and North First streets in Turlock. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but witnesses said the crossing arms were functioning properly and the lights were flashing.
One week before that, a 25-year-old man walked into the path of a train traveling through downtown Modesto. Witnesses report seeing the man, identified as 25-year-old Mark Reeves, who was carrying a bag of aluminum cans, walking past the railroad crossing arm with his head down as the train approached.
