A 16-year-old from Riverbank died Tuesday night after a car hit him on Morrill Road near Coffee Road north of Modesto.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Austin Lundberg, 16, was walking along the road with another person when the accident happened at 9:45 p.m.
Leonardo Mendez, 26, of Riverbank was driving a 1996 Nissan Maxima east on Morrill at about 45 to 50 mph. The car hit Lundberg, then went into a field and overturned.
Lundberg was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Mendez suffered a cut to the hand. The other person walking with Lundberg, identified only as a male, was not hurt.
Investigation into the accident continues; drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been a factor, the CHP said.
