San Joaquin County sheriff’s officials on Friday morning were searching for a 19-year-old Elk Grove man who was last seen struggling in the Stanislaus River near Ripon Thursday evening.
Authorities fear the teenager, identified as Savon Dean, drowned. He went rafting with a friend along the river about 2 p.m. Thursday at Caswell State Park.
About 7 p.m., the friend returned to the campground alone, telling family his friend needed help. The missing man was last seen struggling in the river without a life jacket.
Sheriff’s deputies with help from the Ripon Fire Department and a California Highway Patrol helicopter searched the area for hours without finding him. The sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit continued searching for him Friday.
