Filing period opens for November election

The filing period opens today for dozens of local offices up for election in November. Candidates have until Aug. 9 to file; the filing date will be extended five days for those races in which the incumbent does not run.

A partial list of the seats up for election appeared in Sunday’s “Issues and Ideas” section of The Bee.

They include City Council elections in Modesto, Ceres and Waterford, as well as the Modesto, Turlock and Oakdale irrigation districts and school boards and special districts throughout the area.

Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder Lee Lundrigan said in a press release her office will post updated unofficial candidates daily at www.stanvote.com. Anyone interested in running for office can get more information at the Clerk-Recorder-Elections Office at 1021 I Street, Room 101, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
