A 31-year-old motorcyclist from Sparks, Nev. died Friday after a head-on collision near Santa Nella, authorities said.
The first crash was reported at 5:18 p.m. Friday on Highway 33, north of Centinella Avenue, according to officer Jesse Lopez. The man was riding a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on Highway 33 and pulled into the southbound lane to pass slower traffic.
Jamey Bethard, 36, of Hollister was driving a 1994 Toyota southbound on the highway. Bethard saw the motorcycle traveling toward him and tried to swerve out of the way, Lopez said.
Though Bethard swerved to the right, he was unable to avoid a head-on crash with the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was ejected from the Harley Davidson and sustained fatal injuries.
