Fire officials Saturday morning say the Carstens fire in Mariposa County is 80 percent contained.
Full containment is expected by Monday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
More than 1,600 acres have burned since it began Sunday at the bottom of Plumbar Creek. No structures have been threatened. There was a report of one injury.
The fire started when an abandoned campfire was not fully extinguished.
The orders to evacuate 1,600 residents was lifted on Thursday.
Carstens Road and Buckingham Mountain Road will remain closed to the public. Residents are allowed to enter with identification.
Carter Road is open to all traffic, including those going to the Carter Ranch Music Festival.
