Authorities identified the man who died in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday as a 26-year-old from Modesto. Uriel Victor Solis Hernandez died in the accident on Belharbour Drive just east of Roselle Avenue, the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office said.
Hernandez was driving a 2007 black Honda Accord east on Belharbour in Village I when for some reason the vehicle left the road and hit a tree, police said. Upon impact, the car separated in two and then caught fire.
Hernandez was ejected. The only passenger in the vehicle, a 19-year-old man, jumped out of the car.
Though the first officer on scene and a resident tried to save Hernandez, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Never miss a local story.
The accident was reported at 2:15 a.m.
Authorities continue to investigate. They said Saturday there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol at the scene. Speed may have been a factor; the limit in the area is 25 mph.
Monday morning, a memorial of flowers, candles and beer bottles lined the site. A cross read, “Your memory lives on. RIP Tio Uriel.”
