A woman died after she was struck by a train Sunday morning in Hughson in what investigators believe was a suicide.
About 8:40 a.m., Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies were called to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks at Tully Road and Santa Fe Avenue.
The woman reportedly stepped onto the tracks as the train was approaching, according to sheriff's officials.
She was hit by the train and pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejaran said early information indicates the woman's death was a suicide.
The woman's name won't be released until family members are notified.
