Students recite poetry out loud in Modesto competition

The Poetry Out Loud recitation contest for high school students took place Tuesday night at Modesto Junior College.

Local competitors included students from Davis, Enochs, Modesto, Pitman and Patterson high schools. Kathryn Harlan-Gran took first place and Hannah Fontes of Pitman was the runner-up.

The statewide competition will be held in Sacramento on March 24 and 25. Poetry Out Loud was created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.
