A cold but weak storm is expected to move into the area today, bringing the potential for rain in the valley and snow in the foothills — quite low in the foothills.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm today and Thursday will bring showers to some areas by this afternoon and into evening. Rainfall amounts aren’t expected to be too impressive in the Modesto area, but snow levels will be dropping from 3,500 feet to about 1,500 feet and even lower by Thursday, forecasters say.
Come Friday morning, you can leave behind the umbrella but make sure to grab your coat — as the storm clears, temperatures in the Northern San Joaquin Valley are expected to be well below average, with Modesto area seeing the upper 20s and lower 30s.
Breezy north winds will make it seem even colder.
