Two Modesto men were arrested in Ripon over the weekend after a concerned citizen reported burglars stealing Christmas decorations from a car.
The witness called 911 at about 11:20 p.m. Friday from the neighborhood near Atlantic Avenue and Sea Gull Court. Officers in the area conducting holiday burglary patrols responded and found the suspects in a black Acura Integra, according to Sgt. Steve Merchant.
Officers saw burglary tools, a Christmas igloo decoration and other suspected stolen property in the suspect’s vehicle. The victim was located by police and shown the property, which he identified as his, including the stolen igloo decoration valued at more than $1,800 as being stolen from his work truck, Merchant said.
Robert Emerson Wangelin, 39, and Bobby John Essary, 39, were booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of felony charges including auto burglary, conspiracy and grand theft.
