Joan Clendenin of Modesto is one of three delegates from the 10th Congressional District attending the Republican National Convention this week in Tampa, Fla. She is blogging at www.modbee.com/thehive.
Here are excerpts from Monday:
We just returned from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's rousing speech making the case that California should follow in N.J.'s footsteps and elect a Republican to Sacramento and put Romney-Ryan in the winner's column in November. He branded Jerry Brown the recycled governor whose first choice to solve the state's fiscal problems is to raise taxes.
The ballroom was filled when John Sullivan, the producer of the film "2016," was introduced and spoke about how the movie came to be. Once it rolled, there was not a sound in the room until a clip of Nancy Pelosi saying that "we have to pass the (health) bill before we know what is in it." At that point, the audience broke out in laughter.
Tonight the California delegation will dine together. Congressman Jeff Denham arrived today. I did not have an opportunity to talk with him but did talk to Bob Rucker, his district representative, who said he would be staying here and going to the convention tomorrow. Sonia Denham (his wife) is also a delegate.
