A 16-year-old boy robbed a video store at knifepoint, apparently to get some attention.

Police were called to the Blockbuster in the 1400 block of Geer Road on Tuesday afternoon.

“A young man went into Blockbuster and held it up with a knife, then he asked the clerk to call police,” Lt. Nino Amirfar said. “When we got there, he said he needed attention and that’s the only way he could think to get it.”

Amirfar said the teenager, whose name was not released, was cooperative with officers. The money he took from the business was taken into evidence.

“He just looked very confused and sad,” Amirfar said. “He had a blank stare on his face.”

Officers arrested the young man and booked him into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on robbery charges. “They’ll also evaluate him there and see if he needs additional assistance,” Amirfar said.
