A two-alarm fire tonight caused damage at a Modesto four-plex a few blocks southeast of Coffee Road and Floyd Avenue, authorities said.
Nobody was injured.
There were apparently squatters occupying the vacant four-plex when the fire broke out, according to Battalion Chief Terry Inderbitzen of the Modesto Fire Department.
He termed the cause of the fire as "suspicious," although that's according to a preliminary investigation.
There was currently no electricty coming into the four-plex on La Paz Court, just off Ensenada Drive. Early estimates put the damage at $150,000.
The fire was first reported at about 8:10 p.m., and neighbors were concerned that it would spread to nearby buildlings in the tiny cul-de-sac.
However, firefighters arrived quickly and put the fire out.
Roughly 20 firefighters battled the flames and conducted the mop-up operations.
