HILMAR -- No one was hurt in a small fire reported Monday evening at the Hilmar Cheese Company Visitor Center.
Denise Skimore, the company's director of public relations and education, said the center was closed Tuesday, but is expected to reopen Wednesday.
The center was closed at the time of the fire, and the cause is undetermined. Merced County Fire Department/CalFire firefighters responded to the building at Lander and August avenues at 8:52 p.m. Skidmore said the building's sprinkler system worked properly and the fire was contained to the visitor center classroom kitchen.
Plant operations continued as normal on Tuesday, Skidmore said. A dollar amount for the damage done has yet to be determined.
