TURLOCK — Police today arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his friend during a dispute in November 2008.
Jose Delreal of Ceres was arrested at the Stanislaus County Jail this morning, where he's serving time for assault with a deadly weapon in an unrelated incident, according to Turlock police spokesman Sgt. Nino Amirfar.
Ignacio "Nacho" Alvarez, 41, was found laying in the grass near the Stanislaus County Fairground in the 1000 block of W Canal on Nov. 5.
Detective J.D. McWilliams said both Delreal and the victim were visiting the apartment complex near where Alvarez’s body was found. He said the two men were friends at the time but said a "personal issue" was the motive for the stabbing.
Alvarez was stabbed once. He was taken to Emanuel Medical Center and died there, police said.
Police began the investigation by searching for a dark SUV with several people inside, but McWilliams said he does not believe the occupants had prior knowledge of the stabbing. He said there are no other suspects.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective J.D. McWilliams at 668-5550, ext. 6668. Callers can leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 521-4636 and may be eligible for a cash reward.
