CITY MANAGER CHOSEN: Manteca is about to have a new city manager. The City Council on Monday chose Stockton's redevelopment director for Manteca's top management post. Steve Pinkerton, who is credited with a role in bringing the Stockton Arena and other attractions to that city, was chosen by a unanimous vote of the council in closed session, said Joe Kriskovich, Manteca's administrative services director. He said Pinkerton would make about $196,000 a year. Pinkerton is tentatively set to start June 16. He replaces Bob Adams, who retired Feb. 1. Among his initial duties will be picking fire and police chiefs, positions that are being filled on an interim basis. Fire Chief George Quaresma retired in December, Police Chief Charlie Halford in January. Halford remained on an acting basis until the council selected a city manager.
