75 YEARS AGO: Professional boxer Eddie Vincent, 24, had taken many rights and lefts to the face and body in the ring, but it took just one punch by an enraged bull at the Golden Guernsey Dairy near Ceres to send Vincent down for the count and knock his lights out for about 15 minutes. Vincent had been trying to straighten out a chain around the bull's neck at the time of the attack, and he might have been more seriously injured if Mrs. Tony Gomez had not come along and chased the bull away with a pitchfork.
50 YEARS AGO: Clearing of buildings, including a 90-year-old residence, was under way before the construction of an off-street parking lot at 10th and K streets. The project was expected to be ready for use by May 1 and would be known as the Downtown Auto Park.
