Funeral services set for victims
Funerals have been scheduled following three tragic deaths that occurred in the past week:
- Mark Darrough, 47, and his daughter Jessica, 23, died while on a church trip to Carmel. Both were trying to save the life of a 13-year-old girl who had been swept into the ocean. Mark Darrough drowned Sunday and Jessica died Tuesday morning after being taken off life support. A visitation for both will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave., in Hughson. A service will be held Friday at Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1633 N. Central Ave., in Ceres, with burial to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.

25 YEARS AGO: Benton Hart raced to a 31:23 victory in the 10-kilometer event at the YMCA's St. Patrick's Day Fun Run. Hart overtook Jack Lawson in the 6.2-mile race. Lawson clocked 31:56, and third-place finisher Bob Loux clocked 32:07. The women's winner was Felicia Quilantang at 43:11. -- Karen Aiello
